More than a tree in a pot...

Bonsai Sturm has grown just like a bonsai itself. Founded by Martin Sturm in 2006, who had given workshops and demos as a bonsai artist in Germany and abroad. Starting in 2008 a bonsai shop has been built up step by step together with Vera Sturm and with the loving support of our family. It all started in Schifferstadt in the garden and garage of Martin Sturm's parents' house. Then it moved to Dudenhofen in 2012 and from there to Römerberg (Berghausen) in 2016 to, probably, its final location of Bonsai-Sturm.

For us, bonsai is a passion and much more than just a tree in a pot.

Our passion is shaped by our love of nature, our fascination for the country of Japan and the craft of bonsai art. The focus of our passion for bonsai is the caring design that Martin Sturm has been practicing for years. As a bonsai shop, one of our biggest ambition is to enable our customers to care for their bonsai properly and to improve them in the spirit of caring design.

Knowledge that builds you up!

Caring design is the balance between the optimal health and an aesthetic appearance of the bonsai. For us, this is the heart of good bonsai development. This is the guiding principle of how we impart knowledge to our customers. In order to be able to teach you the basics of the art of bonsai, we regularly offer courses on all important topics of bonsai art and development in our shop in Römerberg. We also consult bonsai enthusiasts regarding the development of their bonsai, provide support and offer private courses, which can also take place at your location on request. We also exhibit our bonsai at events throughout Germany and abroad and give demonstrations that follow the principle of caring design.

Design and care

Of course, we also undertake design and maintenance work on your trees for you. You can also leave your trees with us for care, for example for winter storage, for vacation care or in the event of illness. In addition we have a large selection of hand-picked trees from Japan, exquisite pots from Europe, China and Japan as well as the corresponding accessories such as tools, soil and everything you need for the hobby of bonsai.

Japan

We source the majority of our plants directly from Japan, the country that still practices bonsai at the highest level. To ensure the best quality in our sales and to find selected pieces for our customers on request (Bonsai Scout), we fly to the land of the rising sun every year and select bonsai for future import.

Japan has a lot more to offer than just bonsai. It is precisely the contrast between the ultra-modern, fast-paced cities and the ancient tradition and culture that makes this country so attractive. From my own experience, bonsai is and can be a good way to access Japanese culture. Through bonsai, we want to enable you to bring a little piece of Japan home with you and to enjoy the art of bonsai for a long time. Because as a Japanese bonsai gardener taught us: “In the life of a bonsai, you are ultimately just a caretaker.”
